The Rise of the Gig Economy and Portfolio Careers
Tuesday 14 November
As organisational philosopher Charles Handy predicted as early as the 1980s, the world of work has undergone profound change and portfolio working is fast becoming the norm. These changes raise a wealth of questions which our panel and guests will discuss, including:
What is the gig economy? Is it an opportunity or a threat to individuals? What are some of the main factors driving the rise of freelances, independent consultants and “portfolio careers”? Is it the end of lifetime careers? How do companies hold on to star performers when independence may attract them? Does this development pose a risk to organisations? Importantly, for individuals, can you actually make a living this way and how will companies adapt to this new reality? How will this affect government policies?
