Building a Safe Digital World
Tuesday 13 December 2022
4:00 pm CET / 11:00 pm SGT
Duration: 60 min
Almost a quarter of a century since the birth of the commercial internet, and while in the middle of important breakthroughs in AI and other technologies, we start to appreciate the potential risks and significant harms technologies can lead to for businesses and society. Discussions about the potential impact of online platforms on democracy, misinformation, health and safety of users but also brands, become increasingly loud – we are all becoming familiar with terms such as “online trust & safety” and “content moderation”. The recent developments at companies like Twitter make these terms commonplace.
How can we ensure an open and safe internet and digital world while managing the potential negative impact this world can have on our physical one? What are the challenges balancing freedom of expression and safety online? What can companies learn from the tech sector when it comes to managing their own business risks and, perhaps more important, risks they may be creating for society because of technological innovations they pursue? And what does this all mean in a world with potentially divergent jurisdictions and cultures?
Join us to discuss all this with some of the leaders in the space, across the globe and across both industry and regulators, in a panel with:
- Julie Inman Grant, Australia’s eSafety Commissioner
- Kaifu Zhang (PhD’12Jun), Alibaba Group VP of Global Digital Commerce
- Yoel Roth, Former Head of Trust & Safety at Twitter
- Moderated by INSEAD Professor Theos Evgeniou
This event will be open to all INSEAD alums and with limited places for others.
