GCC countries have been consuming and producing data at a rapid pace, driven largely by improved technology and connectivity. Yet despite this growth, the value of the GCC data economy was just 0.3% of GDP in 2018, as opposed to 2% of GDP in the EU by 2016. Today, as governments are exploring related regulations and companies are turning to their databases for sources of value, many questions still remain unanswered: What is the value of data? What challenges are hindering the growth of the data economy? What is the role of governments in unleashing its growth? How should companies embark on their data monetization journey? In this session, Jad Hajj, partner at Strategy&, provides answers to these questions and fills us in on interesting developments in the region that are underway.
